Practising belly dancing focuses on your lower back and hips. Exercising these areas will benefit you in later years as the majority of us, at some time in our lives, will experience lower back pain. Exercising these areas will relieve you of any pain, keep the area supple and reduce pains and aches in that area. Belly dancing also increases your heart beat which in turn increases your blood circulation, it also higher your metabolic rate making you feel more fit and healthy.

In these busy, stressful times, too many of us sit for extended periods of time behind a desk or the wheel of a car. Taking a few hours each week to enjoy belly dancing will make you feel as good as a workout at the gym.

There are various books, websites and videos available explaining and showing you how to belly dance. It may be an idea to practise at home whilst watching one of these videos before you join a class. There are numerous styles and techniques and there are some fantastic videos for either beginners or the more advanced.

And don’t forget to keep an eye on the waistline! There is no better incentive to carry on than seeing a change to your figure.
